No Injuries In Morning Structure Fire On Bonny Oaks Drive

Monday, March 18, 2013

Chattanooga firefighters responded to a structure fire at 6234 Bonny Oaks Drive shortly after 2 a.m. on Monday. The structure was a vacant convenience store with attached vacant apartments in the rear.

Battalion Chief Steve Swanson said the whole backside of the building was engulfed in flames when the first firefighters arrived. The firefighters eventually got the blaze under control, but the damage was extensive. An estimate on the dollar loss was not available. No injuries were reported.

Eyewitnesses told firefighters that they heard an explosion and then saw fire a short time later. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Bonny Oaks Drive was shut down for several hours because a fire hose supply line from a hydrant had to be laid across the road. Chattanooga police cited one motorist for driving over the hose. Hamilton County EMS also provided valuable assistance.
