Senior women's tennis player Anne Marie Rowe was named NCCAA and GSAC Tennis Player of the Week, announced both organizations on Wednesday.
She is the first Covenant tennis player to win either honor this season.
Rowe won all four of her matches over the weekend and helped the Lady Scots to their first victory of the season. The Lookout Mountain, Ga., native did not drop a set in singles play as she defeated Lindsey Gaither of Tennessee Wesleyan 6-0, 6-0 before knocking off Salem's Ayla Pruitt by the same score.
In doubles matches, Rowe teamed up with her sister, Gretchen, to defeat Tennessee Wesleyan 8-1 and a Salem duo 8-0.
The Lady Scots are back in action on Saturday when they play a pair of matches against Reinhardt and Wesleyan. Matches begin at 10:30 a.m. and will take place at Chattanooga Christian School.
Freshman infielder Morgan Lane was named GSAC Softball Player of the Week on Wednesday as voted on by the league sports information directors.
Lane becomes the third Covenant player to earn the weekly conference award. Cori Hiltand Ellie Groenendyk have each earned it once this season.
The Chattanooga native batted .466 (7-for-15) with three runs scored, three RBIs, and a pair of doubles last week. She went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs in a 9-2 conference victory over Salem on Saturday. Earlier in the week, Lane had five hits, a run batted in, and a run scored in two games against Birmingham Southern.
Lane and the Covenant softball team will return to the field on Friday when they host No. 2-ranked Emory for a doubleheader. Game one is set for 2 p.m.
