The United States House of Representatives on Thursday passed the Path to Prosperity (H. Con. Res. 25), the 2014 budget resolution. The House budget will ensure an additional $1,500 in household income next year and create 500,000 jobs in 2014. Upon passage Congressman Chuck Fleischmann released the following statement:
“The American people know what it means to balance a budget, and they deserve a budget from their government. The Path to Prosperity is a step in the right direction. It balances over 10 years; and, as multiple economists have pointed out, this budget would help get people back to work and keep more money in the pockets of hardworking Americans.
“At a time when unemployment is 7.7% and our national debt is $16.7 trillion, Senate Democrats have offered a plan that will increase taxes by $1.5 trillion. Yet even with this massive tax increase their budget never, ever balances. Meanwhile the President is again late in offering his budget, though he found time this week to present his Final Four picks. The American people deserve better and today House Republicans passed a budget that balances, creates jobs and sets our nation back on a path to prosperity.”
Representative Tom Graves (R-Ga.-14) issued the following statement after he voted for the House Republican Budget:
“I strongly support our budget because of what it does for hard working families in Georgia. Our plan protects you from future tax hikes because it balances the budget by forcing Washington to spend less, rather than asking you to pay more. Our plan increases the size of your paycheck because it lowers tax rates and simplifies the tax code. Our plan will help you keep your job or find a new one because it repeals Obamacare and cuts the corporate tax rate, which frees businesses to grow and hire more workers. Our plan will make your gas cheaper because we approve the Keystone pipeline and open more federal land for energy exploration. And finally, our plan ensures that you get a return on your investment in Medicare because ours is the only budget that saves Medicare from bankruptcy.”
Congressman Scott DesJarlais, M.D. (Tn.-04) released the following statement after voting in favor of the budget:
“For the third year in a row, House Republicans have put forth and passed a responsible, common sense budget. Our plan balances the budget in 10 years, without raising taxes on hardworking Tennesseans. It jump-starts our struggling economy by creating jobs and empowering small businesses. Most importantly, our budget provides economic security for our seniors and future generations by preserving and protecting important retirement programs.
“This is in stark contrast to the approach taken by Senate Democrats. Their budget calls for more taxes, more wasteful spending and more government. In fact, under their approach the budget would never balance.
“I sincerely hope that my colleagues in the Democratic-controlled Senate will accept the reality of our nation’s fiscal situation and start working with House Republicans to get our country back on the right track.”
