$500,000 Lawsuit Claims Man With TB At Jail Did Not Get Needed Medication, Oxygen

Thursday, March 21, 2013

A lawsuit seeking $500,000 in damages against Hamilton County and Sheriff Jim Hammond says a man with tuberculosis did not get oxgygen or the proper medication at the Hamilton County Jail.

It was claimed that Walter Bradley, 63, became weaker at the jail and eventually died.

The suit, filed by next of kin Irene King in Circuit Court, says Bradley went into jail March 14, 2012 and jail personnel were told he needed oxygen and a particular prescription Isoniazid. It claims he was isolated from other prisoners, but did not get the oxygen and medication.

The complaint says the inmate became weaker and eventually around August County Mayor Jim Coppinger "got wind of Mr. Bradley's dangerously declining condition. Alarmed, Mayor Coppinger ordered Mr. Bradley's immediate transfer to Erlanger, where he received the medical care that had been so sorely lacking since March."

He died Oct. 15, 2012.
