UTC Jazz Band Concert Is Wednesday

The UTC Music Department will present the UTC Jazz Band, directed by Erika Schafer, featuring guest vocalists Courtney Reid and Cameron Morgan, in concert at the UTC Fine Arts Center, Roland Hayes Concert Hall, 752 Vine St., on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.  The performance is open to the general public and admission is free. 

This performance will showcase a variety of styles from some of music’s master musicians, including: Dave Brubeck, Ira and George Gershwin, Sid Robin, John “Dizzy” Gillespie, Anthony Newly and Leslie Bricusse, to name a few. It will be a celebration of Courtney Reid’s last Jazz Band performance with “Feeling Good” and “I Got Rhythm”, and vocalist Cameron Morgan will sing “Lady and the Tramp”. In addition, the band will play “Blue Rondo à la Turk”, which is a tribute to Dave Brubeck who passed away last December. Other soloists include: Blake Bowling and DeAndre Mercer on saxophone, Nick Wysong, Zach Langley and Trevor Hayes on trumpet, bassist Tyler Martelli, guitarist Adam Stone, and drummer Michael Pagan.  

Previously featured soloist of the United States Navy Band in Washington, D.C., Dr. Erika L. Schafer is now in her fifth year as trumpet instructor and assistant director of Bands at UTC. She teaches trumpet lessons, directs the Jazz Band and Trumpet Ensemble, and is the assistant director of the Marching Band and Pep Band. She also performs regularly with the Chattanooga Symphony and the UTC Faculty Brass Quintet and, is a founding member of New Dischord, a Chattanooga-based performing ensemble featuring new music in collaboration with other artists.

Jericho Brass To Perform At Lake Katoomba May 25

Man Stabbed To Death After Argument

A Chattanooga man was stabbed to death after an argument on Friday night. At approximately 11 p.m., Chattanooga Police responded to a stabbing at 101 E 20 th St. where they found the victim, Alexis Lewis, 51, lying on the walkway with a fatal stab wound to his chest.
