Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County:

I-75 North at Exit 3A miscellaneous safety improvements at the northbound off ramp to SR 320 (East Brainerd Road):  Work has begun on this project.  During this report period, the contractor will jack and bore across East Brainerd Road to stretch the rigid conduits necessary for the project. Jack and bore is the laying of steel casing under roadways or other inaccessible areas for the installation of underground utilities, in this case the cables for the traffic signal.  They will also begin nighttime milling operations during this period.  This work will not interfere with traffic and all lanes will remain open to traffic.  Estimated project completion date is May.  

U.S. 27 (SR-29) reconstruction project from Manufacturers Road (Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River) to U.S. 127 (SR-8, Signal Mountain Boulevard):  Weather permitting, the contractor will have lane closures throughout the project area on weeknights from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. to perform road work.  They will also be working on retaining walls and bridges throughout the project area.  The Manufacturers Road entrance ramp onto US 27 North has been closed until spring 2013 to allow for construction of several retaining walls and portions of new bridges.  Detours are posted.  The Manning Street entrance ramp to U.S. 27 North and the Manning Street and Whitehall Road exit ramps from U.S. 27 North have been permanently closed.  All work is weather permitting.  Should inclement weather prevent work from being performed, it will be rescheduled to take place at the earliest possible time.  During nighttime work, at least one lane will remain open in each direction.  THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is December 2014.  

Shallowford Road widening project from Gunbarrel Road to Jenkins Road, including grading drainage, and paving: The contractor will be laying pipe across the roadway at several locations.  This work will be performed during the day on weekdays only.  Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is September. 



Market Street Lane Closures Announced For Saturday

The southbound lanes of the 1100 block of Market Street will be closed for building maintenance on  Saturday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m . This closure is for the southbound lanes only.  Detours will be posted using West 11 th  Street, southbound on Broad Street and West 12 th  Street back to Market Street. Joe H. Dempsey, 64, Dies On Friday In Crash Attributed To Icy Roads

A 64-year-old man died in a Hixson Pike traffic crash on Friday morning in a wreck that was attributed to icy roads. Magistrate Sharetta Smith told police that a former boyfriend had sent her a threatening text message with a sexual picture from the time they were dating attached.
