Area businesses and nonprofit organizations will celebrate Tennessee Saves Week with a Pigs on Parade event. More than forty partners have decorated piggy banks to motivate youth and adults to improve their savings habits. According to June Puett, University of Tennessee Extension Agent, this is the fourth year for the contest.
“Local business and organizations volunteer to decorate a piggy bank in an effort to promote financial literacy,” said Ms. Puett. Businesses, nonprofits, and educational agencies decorate a piggy bank using any theme of their choice. The messages promote financial literacy and make the community aware of their interest in financial education.
Ms. Puett and the local Tennessee Saves coalition invite the public to vote for their favorite piggy bank during Tennessee Saves Week- March 6-13. They can vote online on Facebook.com/TennesseeSavesChattanoogaChapter. Go to the three Pigs on Parade albums: business, non-profit and education and vote by “liking” the favorite in each category. They can also or vote in person at the free Chamber of Commerce Business Expo at the Convention Center on March 13 from 10-11:30 a.m. and 1-2:30 p.m. All voting ends at 2:30 p.m. on March 13 and winners are announced at 3 p.m. at the Expo.
Tennessee Saves coalition partners provide money management classes year round. Monthly classes are currently being offered to assist folks who can’t qualify for rental housing due to poor credit ratings.
