Lady Mocs Top Seed In SoCon, Will Play Saturday at Noon

The Southern Conference has announced the pairings for the 2013 Women’s Basketball Tournament, scheduled to begin Friday (March 8) in Asheville, N.C.

Chattanooga, who won their last 16 conference games, claimed the top seed in the women’s tournament. The Lady Mocs, along with No. 2 Davidson, No. 3 Elon, No. 4 Appalachian State, and No. 5 College of Charleston received opening-round byes and will play Saturday, after being matched up with their opponents following Friday’s first round.

The tournament will begin in UNC Asheville’s Kimmel Arena with No. 8 Georgia Southern taking on No. 9 Western Carolina at 11:30 a.m., which is part of the Education Day program. That game will be followed by No. 7 Furman against No. 10 UNCG at 1:45 p.m. No. 6 Samford will take on No. 11 Wofford in the final opening-round game, with tipoff set for 4:00 p.m.

Saturday’s quarterfinals begin with Chattanooga taking on the winner of game 1 (Georgia Southern/Western Carolina), to be followed by Appalachian State taking on College of Charleston at 2:15 p.m. Davidson will take on the winner of the Furman, UNCG match-up at 4:30 p.m., followed by Elon and the winner of the Samford,Wofford game at 6:45 p.m., the final game in Kimmel Arena. The women’s semifinals and championship game will be held in the U.S. Cellular Center in Asheville.

The women’s championship game, which is scheduled for Monday at 3:00 p.m. in the U.S. Cellular Center can be seen on ESPN3.

Game 5—(4) Appalachian State vs. (5) College of Charleston, 2:15 p.m.

Game 6—(2) Davidson vs. Winner of Game 2, 4:30 p.m.

Game 7—(3) Elon vs. Winner of Game 3, 6:45 p.m.

Sunday, March 10

Semifinal 1—Noon
