Jazz Vespers at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, Signal Mountain, will be held on St. Patrick’s Day, Sunday, March 17, at 5 p.m. All are welcome to attend this service. There is no admission charge, but a freewill offering will be received. A reception will follow.
Kathy Tugman and the David Walters Trio have programmed an array of songs, which will cast the secular rhythms and messages of jazz in the light of the Vesper candle. The music will include “My Heart Stood Still” by Rodgers and Hart, “I Got the World on a String” by Harold Arlen, “My Father” by Judy Collins, and “Have a Little Talk with Jesus.” The music will be offered between scripture lessons and poetry readings. With a bow toward the Irish celebration, poets will include Seamus Heaney and W. B. Yeats, and the Americans will be represented by Robert Penn Warren and Mark Strand. But above all, the jazz style will be intertwined throughout the entire program.
St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church is at 630 Mississippi Ave., Signal Mountain.
