Tuesday, March 05, 2013
The Covenant women's basketball team is seeded third and will open play against Bluefield on Thursday night at 7 p.m. in the NCCAA Mid-East Regional Tournament hosted by Bluefield College.

Union (Tenn.) University is the top seed, Bluefield second, Covenant third, and Tennessee Temple fourth.

If Covenant wins its first game, the Lady Scots would advance to the championship game on Friday at 7 p.m. against either Union or Tennessee Temple.

Covenant finished the regular season winning six of its final eight games, including the final three all by at least 11 points.

Junior forward Jessie Blankenship leads the team in scoring (14.5 points per game) and rebounding (7.0 rebounds per contest). Blankenship was named All-GSAC last week.

Freshmen Alexis Storteboom and Haley Soles have both made an immediate impact in their first seasons as they each earned GSAC All-Freshman honors. Kiaira Cooper and Ruth Gibson have both been steady veteran leaders on the team. Together, Cooper and Gibson have started all but one game.

Covenant and Bluefield last met on March 3, 2010 in the NCCAA Mid-East Region Tournament. Bluefield claimed a 67-58 win that day to advance in the tournament.
