CCS Tennis: Changing of the Coaching Guard

Sue Webb, Josh Jeremiah Lead the Chargers

The Chattanooga Christian School tennis program has two new coaches this season as hall of famer Sue Webb is back for her second and final tour as head girls coach and Josh Jeremiah is in his first year as the boys coach.

Webb, who led the Chargers to a combined nine state titles – girls (5) and boys (4) – during a 10 year period (2002-2011) and then coached at Covenant College last season, will retire after this spring to concentrate on her Juice Plus business.

“I look forward to the 2013 season at CCS and will continue to help with the overall tennis program as a volunteer coach in the future, but I feel the need to focus full-time on my Juice Plus business,” said Webb, who was an All-American tennis player at UTC in the mid-1980s.

Renato Mizutani, who coached the CCS tennis teams last season, is now the head tennis coach for boys and girls at Signal Mountain High School.

CCS Girls:Coach Webb has a veteran team with five returning starters back from last year, including the 2012 A-AA state doubles champions in Ellie and Hannah Henry.

The other returning starters are seniors Allie Sullivan and Gracie Smith and junior Caraline Redberg, while junior Emmie Cornell will play at No.6 singles this season.

Other members of the varsity are Kruesi Brock (Sr.), Sarah Smith (Jr.) and Roo Rogers (So.)

Sister Duos: Webb has coached a handful of sister duos at CCS, including Morgan and Megan Desha on the 2002 state championship team, Anne Marie and Gretchen Rowe as members of the 2008 state championship team and now Ellie and Hannah Henry playing together for the third year.

CCS Boys:  Coach Jeremiah played No. 1 singles for Covenant College for four years (2008-2011) and is in his first year as the CCS boys coach. A young team, CCS returns one starter (Will French, So.) from the 2012 regional champions.

The roster also includes sophomores Nick Baxendell, Rett Bryant, Tommy Howell, Chris Taylor and Addison Turner, while the freshmen are Stephen Adams and Joe Sliger

Season-Opening Matches: Mon. March 18 – CCS hosts District 7 foe Van Buren at 4 p.m. in boys and girls matches.

Man Stabbed To Death After Argument

A Chattanooga man was stabbed to death after an argument on Friday night. At approximately 11 p.m., Chattanooga Police responded to a stabbing at 101 E 20 th St. where they found the victim, Alexis Lewis, 51, lying on the walkway with a fatal stab wound to his chest.
