The UTC men's basketball team is in Asheville Friday and will take on UNCG in the opening round of the Southern Conference tournament at 6 p.m.
The game will be televised on ESPN3.com.
The winner will face Elon in the semifinals on Saturday at 6 p.m.
UTC has claimed 10 tournament championships since joining the league in 1977 and is 52-25 in tournament games.
The Mocs are 18-14 all time against UNCG. They loss both of their regular season match ups with the Spartans this year, 77-69 and 94-68.
The Mocs lead the SoCon in rebounds per game (38.0) and offensive rebound percentage (.356), while ranking second in rebounding margin (+4.5) and defensive rebound percentage (.726).
Gee McGhee and Z. Mason were honored by the league's coaches and media. McGhee made the All-Freshman team selected by both entities. Mason was third team All-SoCon selected by the media.
UTC is 10th in the league in FT percentage (66.2%). In the first 36 minutes, it shoots 62.7 percent (382-609). In the final four minutes of the game is when it excels shooting 80.0 percent (124-155). Mason paces the effort at 90.6 percent (29-32) with Ronrico White right behind at 88.2 percent (45-51).
The Mocs have made 46 less free throws (506) than their opponents have attempted (552). In fact, the squad's 506 makes is more than three SoCon teams (Samford - 488, Elon - 487 & Wofford - 468) have attempted all season. There is just a 13 free throw difference in SoCon games with UTC making 306 to opponents attempting 219.
