McMinn Central's Masengil Named Class AA Miss Basketball

The winner of the Class AA Miss Basketball Award was announced at the conclusion of the championship game today at Murphy Center.

Elizabeth Masengil from McMinn Central was named Miss Basketball for 2013.  The other two finalists were Brandi Goodman from Obion County High School and Abby Sissom of Cannon County High School. 

Masengil is a 5’11”, senior, forward.  She is a four year starter for the Lady Chargers who averages 22.4 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 3.

3 steals per game.  She shoots 47% from the field, 35% from three-point range, and 70% from the free-throw line.  She has been an All-District and All-Region selection each year of her high school career.  She was named to the All-Tournament team at the state tournament as a freshman and was named state tournament MVP as a sophomore.  Elizabeth has been named to the All-State team twice and was a finalist for the Miss Basketball award last year.  She has scored over 2,500 career points and has over 900 career rebounds.


Chattanooga FC Host Storm Saturday

Dog Fighting Operation Uncovered On Talladega Avenue

TBI was executing a narcotics search warrant at 6302 Talladega Ave. in Chattanooga on Friday and uncovered a dog fighting operation. Officials said it consisted of numerous pit bills, a fight ring, a treadmill and blood-stained carpets and paneling. Mcckamey Animal Services personnel were processing the fight scene. City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
