Sheriff's Deputy Disciplined After Internal Affairs Investigation

Monday, April 29, 2013

Sheriff Jim Hammond demoted Deputy Sheriff Justin Tabor to Corrections Officer on Friday. This demotion stems from an Internal Affairs investigation that revealed Deputy Tabor engaged in inappropriate, off duty conduct with juveniles, some of whom are members of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post.

According to the investigative report, Deputy Tabor provided alcohol to one or more of the juveniles on one or more occasions. The report further indicated that these incidents occurred outside of Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office or Explorer Post sanctioned functions. The parents of the juveniles involved declined to be part of any criminal prosecution. The Hamilton County District Attorney’s Office referred the matter to Sheriff Hammond to be handled administratively.

In addition to the demotion, Sheriff Hammond has placed Deputy Tabor on disciplinary probation for one year and has suspended Deputy Tabor for 132 hours without pay. Upon completion of the suspension, Deputy Tabor will be removed from the Patrol Division and reassigned to the Hamilton County Jail.
