A teenager was struck by a vehicle while waiting at a school bus stop in Hixson on Thursday morning.
Stephen Holloway, 17, was treated and released. He mainly had scrapes and bruises.
The incident happened at the 4700 block of Norcross Road. Officers found the youth had been struck by a car that did not stop as he was trying to cross the road to board a school bus. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of the non-life-threatening injuries. He was waiting at the bus stop at the corner of Metro Drive and Norcross Road.
The school bus, which was headed southbound, arrived and stopped with its emergency lights activated and the stop sign out. As the teen was about to cross the road, a northbound vehicle sped past him, but he was not struck. The victim again stepped out onto the road to cross when a second vehicle did not stop and struck him.
The driver has been identified as Stephen Stewart, 36. He has been cited for a stop sign violation. The first vehicle who had driven through the stop sign has not been located.
The Chattanooga Police Department asks that citizens pay special attention to their surroundings before and after school as there are a lot of children waiting at bus stops or walking to and from school.
That accident happened at an intersection where a number of wrecks have occurred and the city is planning to put in a roundabout that officials said will be safer for both motorists and pedestrians.
The road near the bus stop was closed temporarily, but it was later reopened.
