The Museum of Flight, Chattanoooga’s Aviation Museum, will offer the Chattanooga area public a rare opportunity to ride in military helicopters on Saturday. The Huey and Cobra helicopters, piloted by the Army, will take the pubic for rides between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The copters will take off and land from the Museum of Flight in Hixson, at the Dallas Bay Skypark next to the Middle Valley Ball Fields.
Funds from the helicopter rides will support the nonprofit flight museum and Erlanger Children’s Hospital. Tickets to ride the Huey are $79 each, and the Cobra tickets are $500 each.
The museum will hold its annual Open Hanger Gala on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., at TAC AIR Hanger South.
James Howard of Sunny 93.2 FM will be the Master of Ceremonies for the event that features dinner, dancing, a silent auction and the Ladies of Liberty singing trio reminiscent of the Andrews Sisters.
Funds from the Open Hanger Gala will support the nonprofit museum and Erlanger Children’s Hospital.
The Museum of Flight provides tours and gives airplane rides in the vintage aircraft that are located in the Hixson facility. The mission of the museum is to increase the public’s awareness of aviation through the flight of historic aircraft while supporting the local children’s hospital.
