McKee Gets Court Approval To Complete Purchase Of Hostess Drake's Cakes

  • Tuesday, April 9, 2013

A bankruptcy court judge in White Plains, N.Y., on Tuesday approved the $27.5 million purchase of Drake's Cakes by Collegedale-based McKee Food.

The action was taken in the bankruptcy of Hostess brands.

A McKee official said the judge waived the 14-day waiting period and the deal should be completed this week.

He said McKee workers will begin transporting Drake's Cake equipment to plants at Collegedale and at Stuart's Draft, Va. He said both plants have capacity for the equipment.

Drake's Cakes include such items as Devil Dogs, Yankee Doodles and Yodels.

Another purchaser got the famed Hostess Twinkies brand.
