Big margins in the two East Brainerd precincts helped Larry Grohn win the District 4 City Council runoff on Tuesday by a decisive margin.
He had 1,077 votes to 692 for incumbent Jack Benson.
In East Brainerd 1, Mr. Grohn had a margin of 300 to 126. He won by 351 to 136 in East Brainerd 2.
Mr. Benson won by close margins in the Concord precincts. He was up 131 to 112 in Concord 2 and ahead 176 to 168 in Concord 4. The two votes in Concord 3 went to Mr. Grohn and did the three at Summit 4.
Mr. Grohn, in his first political race, got backing from both the Hamilton County Republican Party and the local Tea Party as well as backing from fire and police.
The win means only two incumbents - Carol Berz and Russell Gilbert - will be returning to the City Council. Neither one had opposition.
Other new council members to be sworn-in next week are Chip Henderson, Chris Anderson, Moses Freeman, Yusuf Hakeem, Jerry Mitchell and Ken Smith.
