Hammond Hires Gobble On Interim Basis To Run County Jail

Wednesday, May 1, 2013

Sheriff Jim Hammond has hired former East Ridge City Manager Tim Gobble to run the county jail on a temporary basis.

Mr. Gobble, who is also the former sheriff of Bradley County, started to work today.

Sheriff Hammond said he will continue a widespread search for a jail administrator. He said he does not believe Mr. Gobble wants the job full time.

He noted that Mr. Gobble has experience running both the Bradley County and Hamilton County jails.

Sheriff Hammond said he could not leave the jail without an administrator.

He said, "There are too many people and too many issues to leave it without an administrator."

The sheriff said, “Tim Gobble has been here before. He assumed that same position after the death of Deputy Chief Richard Shockley in 2010. He knows our jail, he understands our philosophy, and his qualifications as a U. S. Secret Service agent and past sheriff of Bradley County, not to mention his people skills, is what we need right now.”

The pay for the position is around $70,000. He is not receiving any benefits except for the use of a cellphone and take-home car.
