Chattanooga firefighters were dispatched to a vacant house fire shortly before 2 p.m. on Wednesday, at 6218 Vance Road.

Flames could be seen for miles and 911 Communications received multiple calls from passing motorists.

Battalion Chief Steve Swanson said the entire house was engulfed in flames when the first firefighters arrived on the scene. Chief Swanson said the firefighters fought the fire defensively, surrounding the structure and working to suppress and extinguish the blaze from the outside. No injuries were reported.

The house is in a fairly isolated location in some woods off Vance Road and appears to have been unoccupied for an extended period of time. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
