Retired From TVA After 35 Years

Lemon Clyde :L.C." Williams Sr., 72, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, died on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Memorial Hospital.  

He was born in Town Creek, Ala., to John Clyde Williams and Hazella Wiley Williams on Jan. 19, 1941.  He lived most of his life in North, Ala., but spent his remaining 23 years in Chattanooga. 

He was a graduate of Courtland High School in 1959 where he was a quarterback and entered the Army in the same year.  He was the first black police officer in Tuscumbia, Ala., and received an NAACP recognition award. He was an entrepreneur and owned Williams Electric Company in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and helped established the family owned Joe’s BBQ in Huntsville. He worked for TVA in Muscle Shoals, Huntsville, and Chattanooga, where he retired after 35 years of service.  He was a huge fan of the Tennessee Volunteers football team and the Lady Vols Basketball team.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Susie Smith Williams.  He was extremely proud of his five children, Michael (Pamela) Williams, Terry (Diane) Williams, Carolyn (Darryl) Wilson, Andrea (James) Cagle and L.C. Williams, Jr., all of Chattanooga. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  He was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all.  His family was very important to him and he encouraged and hosted family reunions to celebrate them.  He was respected and loved by all who knew him and will truly be missed. 

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, May 14, at 1 p.m. at Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church, 1734 E. 3rd Street, Chattanooga, Tn. 37404. Burial will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The body will lie in state after noon on Monday, May 13, and family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37404, 622-9995.
