Course On Disaster Recovery In Rural Communities Offered June 28

  • Tuesday, May 14, 2013

The Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium is bringing a free Department of Homeland Security-certified course on Disaster Recovery in Rural Communities to Ooltewah.

The course teaches community leaders and emergency managers in rural communities how to plan for and execute disaster recovery efforts. Upon implementation, this course will assist rural communities with expediting disaster recovery efforts and facilitating the long-term economic success of their communities. Examples from Hurricane Katrina and towns devastated by tornadoes will be used as case studies to examine why communities were successful or unsuccessful in their recovery efforts. Additionally, students will actively engage in a fictional disaster recovery scenario.

Organizers said, "The Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium (RDPC) is making it easier for emergency responders in and around Ooltewah, to be prepared for such events by delivering the course - Disaster Recovery in Rural Communities."

The eight-hour instructor-led course will be offered from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on June 28, at Collegedale Municipal Building, 4910 Swinyar Drive, Ooltewah, Tn. 37363 in the Fuller West Classroom. The course assists rural communities with effective and efficient implementation of recovery efforts to help ensure the best possible long-term social and economic recovery of their communities from disaster.
