Erlanger Offers Classes And Events For June 3-15

The Erlanger schedule of classes and events for June 3-15 includes family planning classes, weight management information and cholesterol screening.  Registration is required.  For more information on our classes and events, call Erlanger HealthLink at (423) 778-LINK (5465), seven days a week from 8 a.m. until midnight  HealthLink Plus is a free membership program open to adults 18 and older. 

Monday, June 3

Bariatric Support Group

5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Erlanger Chattanooga Lifestyle Center

Bariatric Support Group meetings are for individuals scheduled to have Bariatric surgery or who have already had weight loss surgery.  Call Erlanger’s HealthLink at (423) 778-LINK (5465) for more information.

Childbirth Education

5:30 – 8:45 p.m.

Erlanger East (Gunbarrel Road)

This childbirth education class/series is designed for expectant parents and taught by experienced OB nurses.  These classes include stages of labor, relaxation and labor support techniques, hospital procedures, pain management options, after birth and home care for moms and in-hospital care for newborns.  There will also be time for questions and answers.  Registration fee is $75.  Call Erlanger’s HealthLink at (423) 778-LINK (5465) to register. 

Tuesday, June 4

Breastfeeding

6:30 – 9:00 p.m.

Erlanger East (Gunbarrel Road)

This class is designed to help participants make an informed choice about breastfeeding.  Learn breastfeeding basics, what to expect the first few weeks and special tips for success.  Concerns about returning to work/school will also be discussed.  This course is coordinated by a board-certified lactation consultant.  Registration fee is $30.  Call Erlanger’s HealthLink at (423) 778-LINK (5465) to register.

Wednesday, June 5

Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Seminar

6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Erlanger Baroness (Plaza Surgery Waiting Room)

Area residents who are overweight and /or with health problems related to obesity are invited to learn more about the Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Center at Erlanger.  It is a free seminar and registration is required.  Call Erlanger’s HealthLink at (423) 778-LINK (5465) to register. Cholestech Lipid and Glucose Screening

8:00 – Noon

Erlanger East (Gunbarrel Road)

Lipid & Glucose Screening with results WHILE YOU WAIT!  A lipid panel will show HDL, LDL, Total cholesterol, non-HDL, cholesterol ratio and triglycerides.  A 12-hour fast is required to produce an accurate result.   No eating or drinking coffee prior to the test, but please drink water the night before and morning of testing. Reservations ARE required, no walk-ins will be taken.  Lipid plus Glucose is $25. Call Erlanger’s HealthLink at (423) 778-LINK (5465) for information.

Saturday, June 15

Boot Camp for Dads

9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Erlanger East (Gunbarrel Road)

This session is for first time dads who want to learn more about the upcoming new addition in their family.  Topics include diapering, feeding, why babies cry and how to handle it, how you can help the new mom, learn about postpartum depression and general hands-on infant care.  A new “veteran” dad is invited (along with his new baby) to the class for question and answer time.  Call Erlanger’s HealthLink at (423) 778-LINK (5465) to register.
