Thursday, May 16, 2013

County School Board members voted unanimously on Thursday night to authorize the chairman and board attorney to negotiate terms of a new four-year contract for Supt. Rick Smith.

Joe Galloway made a motion to do so and David Testerman seconded it.

The actual vote on the contract is expected at the June 20 regular board meeting.

Mr. Smith has two years remaining on his current contract.

Chairman Mike Evatt said Mr. Smith, who was the longtime assistant superintendent before he was elevated when Dr.

Jim Scales was forced out, got a high rating from board members in the annual evaluation.

He said he got a 3.74 score, which is "almost above expectations."
