Notre Dame Wins Region Title 3-1 Over CCS

Thursday, May 16, 2013

For the third time this season, the CCS and Notre Dame soccer teams met on the soccer field Thursday night.  The first match up was a tie, the second Notre Dame edged CCS 1-0 but Thursday, Notre Dame punched in three goals for a 3-1 region championship.

With the win, Notre Dame will host East Ridge on Saturday in a must win game.  CCS will travel to East Hamilton.  Winners of Saturday's game will advance to the Class A/AA state quarterfinals in Murfreesboro which begins on Tuesday.

Notre Dame's Baggio Card scored the first and third goal for the Irish.  His first goal came in the 23rd minute off a deflection in the CCS box.

Notre Dame's second goal came early in the second half when Paul Behlau crossed a ball in the box to Joseph Koenig who headed past CCS keeper Jonathan Crossman.

Card scored his third goal assisted by Christian Culver.

CCS's goal came off a Hamilton Bosgraf pass to Clark Marshall in the 60th minute.

Notre Dame head coach Jim Schermerhorn was pleased with his teams effort.

"They played really good tonight," Schermerhorn said. "Compared to the first game with CCS our intensity was better.  We got to the ball first.  These guys are playing for a trophy so they are going to battle with each other."

Going forward both teams have a test on Saturday.

"From the beginning of the season East Hamilton has been the team to beat,"  CCS head coach Shawn Brower.  "We have a lot of respect for them.  We will have to play our best game of the year and knowing we are playing for state we should bring it."

East Hamilton has just one loss on the season and two ties.  Game time is tentatively set for 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The East Ridge-Notre Dame game will likely be in the afternoon on Saturday.  East Ridge seniors graduate at 2 p.m. and Notre Dame has their baccalaureate service at 6:30.

Roy Exum: Rebranding & ‘Culture’

My grandfather, who ran several very successful businesses, was a very astute fellow. I can’t tell you how many times he said, “The worst thing any salesman who calls on a business can say is, ‘I am here to save you some money.’ That’s not true -- In every instance they are in front of you hoping to make some money for themselves, else they would have never come by.” Another ...
