Police Blotter: Bullet Comes Into Walker Road House During "Gun Battle"; Shots Fired Near Majestic Theatre

Police said a man and wife were listening to the disquieting sounds of a "gun battle" on Walker Road when one of the shots entered their home.

It went through the front right side of the house, traveling through the siding and blowing out some sheetrock.

The bullet passed through an open front entry door.

It was found lodged in a wall between the living room and front left bedroom.

Fortunately, no one inside was injured.

There were also shots fired downtown near the Majestic Theatre.

Witnesses said two black males were in a confrontation with another group. One was heavy set and the other thinner.

The thinner one pulled out a handgun on the Republic Parking lot at 200 Market St. and fired 3-4 shots toward the other group.

Then all fled.

A 380 caliber shell casing was found at the scene.

At the fire hall on Curtis Street, Chief Charles Patton said when there was a power failure the backup generator did not respond.

It was found that a bullet had gone through the generator, causing $2,500 in damage.

The shot went through a nearby sign and fence before entering the generator.

Officers are tired of answering false alarms at First Volunteer Bank on Gunbarrel Road.

It happened for the 10th time this year.

An officer told branch manager Joan Welch that if it keeps up police may get in the mode of "just another false alarm" and not respond quickly on a real crisis.

Ms. Welch said it is an issue with the bank's security company.

Two shoplifters at the Lookout Valley Walmart left without paying for about 50 DVD movies.

They were described as a black male and black female in their early 20s. The man was about 5'11" and 165 pounds and the woman 5'4" and 155 pounds.

The loss was about $1,000.

A woman on E. 26th St. said someone stole all four tires and the license plate off a 1998 Pontiac parked in her back yard.

It had belonged to her late father.

A man that store officials identified as Robert Willingham grabbed 15 CDs at the Raceway on Broad Street.

He was stopped outside the store and handed over the items, then he fled.

A business on Central Avenue suffered the loss of two 12-packs of Bud Ice.

They were taken by a man wearing a red hat and a red shirt.

He left in a red Chevy pickup.

A couple left their 1997 Nissan Altima by Suck Creek Road and went hiking.

When they returned they found that someone had knocked out a window.

Taken were the woman's purse and cellphone.

The bank was called before debit cards could be used.

A guest at the Holiday Inn Express on W. MLK Boulevard had his vehicle broken into.

He is missing $2,000 in electronic items.

A woman on N. Chamberlain Avenue was in the rear of her apartment when she heard loud crashing noise.

She found that both of her large front windows had been smashed.

A neighbor reported seeing the woman's ex-boyfriend leaving the scene. Warrants were to be taken against him.

A man said he was spending time with his "current girlfriend" at his work site at 200 Broad St. when his wife unexpectedly showed up.

He said she went for him first and scratched him multiple times.

Then she used a tool to smash the front window on his truck.

Finally, she got in her vehicle and careened into the truck, where the frightened current girlfriend was sitting.

Lisa Bowman said she was driving on Market Street when "a little Mexican man" walked in front of her.

She hit him, knocking him down.

Ms. Bowman stopped her car and offered to take the victim to the hospital.

But the little Mexican man got up and ran off.

Ms. Bowman said she drove on to the courthouse and talked to a judge about the situation. Then she returned to the scene and filed a police report.
