Indians, which is the Rangers’ short- season, Class- A team in the Northwest League.
Duran, a mainstay for the Flames during the 2012 season, was off to a tremendous start in 2013 before being hit by a pitch and suffering a broken hand. In 18 games the right-handed hitting Duran was batting .360. In 50 at bats, he had 18 hits, including two doubles, three home runs and 14 RBI.
“I am really excited Robbie got this opportunity. He was having a great senior season until he broke his hand,” noted Lee head coach Mark Brew. “He battled back from that injury only to have it happen again and take away the majority of his season.”
Brew said his staff always believed Duran had professional ability. “I am glad he got the recent opportunity to work out in Arizona for the Texas Rangers.” The coach added. “They saw that ability and quickly signed him to a professional contract and his dream of playing professional baseball became a reality.
“We wish him the best as he joins former Flames Jose Samayoa and Chris Grayson in the Texas organization.” Samayoa was taken in the 2013 MLB Draft and Grayson is in his second season of professional ball.
