Bradley Commission To Again Delay Tax Increase For Lake Forest Middle School

Monday, June 24, 2013

Bradley County Commissioner Jeff Morelock said he still intends to push for a 7-cent property tax increase for an overhaul of Lake Forest Middle School, but he said he is willing to again delay the vote.

It was set for next Monday, but is expected to be delayed until the finance committee on July 17 hears a lease-payback proposal from the Cope architectural firm. That was touted as an alternative way to pay for the $14 million project.

Commissioner Morelock said he just wanted to get the project going, saying he wanted work started in the 2014-2015 budget year.

County Mayor R. Gary Davis has said bond funds will not become available for such projects until 2016 due to major debt obligations for Wacker and other commitments.

He said the commission may be able to approve a certified tax rate based on the recent reappraisal next Monday. However, he said the Lake Forest tax vote did not have to happen then.
