Chris Harvey, who has served as a detective and sergeant in the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, is getting an early jump in the sheriff's race.

He said he plans to qualify in the primary next May.

Mr. Harvey said, "Today, I'm announcing my candidacy for sheriff of Hamilton County. I make this decision with the full support of my family as well as many friends and fellow deputies and others throughout the law enforcement community.

"As a career lawman I have worked diligently to keep communities safe for our families. As an Internal Affairs detective and later sergeant I have worked to make sure those wearing the badge have the highest level of integrity. With nearly 20 years of diverse experience, I am the lawman, as the Book of Esther says "for such a time as this."

"I believe I am the most qualified person to lead the Sheriff's Office. As sheriff I will serve as a Constitutional Sheriff. I will lead by example and not bring embarrassment to my family nor fellow brothers and sisters serving HCSO. If elected I will be a working sheriff. When the citizens of Hamilton County read of Sheriff Chris Harvey in the morning paper the story will be of serving and protecting them with integrity and fairness.

"I will lead our department to be good stewards of the public tax dollar. As your sheriff I will make expenditures transparent and open communication to all citizens and law enforcement agencies of our county. My administration will partner with the County Commission as well as other municipal governments, organizations and non-profits to better the youth of our community.

"I offer a clear vision for the Sheriff's Office, that is to be a department of integrity and fairness for all Hamilton County citizens."
