Florine Jessie Hooker, 75, of Dalton, GA, died Saturday evening, June 29, 2013 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family.
Florine was born August 11, 1937 in Jasper, TN, a daughter of the late Marvin E. and Annie Minerva West McCollum; and was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Cardella Britt; and her brothers, Freddie James McCollum, Eddie Alton McCollum and Billy Lee McCollum.
Florine was retired from Shaw Industries Plant #1 where she worked for over 37 years. She was a devout Christian and was an active member of Welcome Hill Baptist Church. She was a very hard worker and loved her family and friends deeply. She was known for her collection of tea pots.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, James Hooker of the home; son, James Hugh “Jamie” Hooker of Dalton; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Mark Rice of Chatsworth; granddaughter, Bethany LeAnn Hooker of Dalton; brother, Kenneth Lloyd McCollum of Dalton; sister, Darlene Thomas of Harrison; aunt, Edna Parker of Dalton; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Florine Jessie Hooker will be held Tuesday, July 2, at 4 p.m. at Welcome Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Scott Winters officiating. She will be laid to rest at the Fairy Valley Baptist Church Cemetery in Murray County, Georgia. Mark Rice and the deacons of Welcome Hill Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 4-9 p.m. Monday, July 1 and after 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 2 at the Ponders Melrose Chapel who has charge of the arrangements.
