A home in the Collegedale area was heavily damaged by fire, late Thursday afternoon.

At 5:45 p.m., a neighbor called 911 reporting smoke coming from the house next door. The Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department responded to 9510 Heathwood Drive. The first unit arrived, reporting heavy smoke coming from the eaves of the house. Firefighters moved quickly to contain the fire to the attic and roof area.

Due to the extreme heat and humidity, Tri-Community Fire Chief DeWayne Pitts requested a mutual aid response for additional manpower. The Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department, Catoosa County Fire Department and Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue responded to assist.

No injuries were reported. The homeowner, Melanie Magoon, was not home at the time of the fire.

According to Tri-Community Fire Marshall Amory Planchard, the cause of the fire was undetermined, but he did report the fire was accidental. The cause of the fire will be under investigation by the homeowner's insurance company. Damages are valued at $150,000.
