Sheriff Jim Hammond said he plans "to cast a wide net" for a person to oversee the Hamilton County Jail.
He said he is seeking a certified jail operator, noting that the jail is a $10 million operation.
Sheriff Hammond said he also wants a person in place who can help assure that the jail meets certification requirements.
He said the post will be advertised nationally.
Tim Gobble, former Bradley County sheriff, handled the job recently. However, he was appointed by Gov. Bill Haslam to the state board of probation and parole.
