Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County:

I-24 and I-75 resurfacing project:  I-24 resurfacing from west of Spring Creek Rd. (MM 185) to I-75 (MM 185.7); I-75 resurfacing from the Georgia State Line (MM 0.00) to south of Chickamauga Creek (MM 1.91):  Work on this project is complete pending addressing of punchlist items.  Any work requiring lane closures is limited to Sunday through Thursday nights between 9PM - 6AM.  THP will assist with traffic control.

U.S. 41 (SR-8, Ringgold Rd.) grading, drainage and paving at the intersection of I-75 South off-ramp (LM 1.07) at Exit 1: Work on this project has begun.  The contractor will be working on Exit 1 on I-75 South at East Ridge performing temporary lane shifts and lane reduction operations during this report period.  Work will take place between the hours of 7AM and 6PM on Mondays through Saturdays.  Unless a major backup occurs, traffic on I-75 should not be affected.  In the future this job could require a temporary lane/shoulder closure on I-75 South.  THP and flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is September 2013. 

U.S. 27 (SR-29) reconstruction project from Manufacturers Road (Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River) to U.S. 127 (SR-8, Signal Mountain Boulevard):  Weather permitting, the contractor will have lane closures throughout the project area on weeknights from 7PM to 6AM to perform road work.  During this report period, the contractor will also be working on retaining walls and bridges throughout the project area.  The contractor will be pouring a portion of the bridge deck on U.S. 27 South over Elmwood Drive on Thursday night, July 18 and Friday night, July 19 between 7PM – 6AM.  During this work, Elmwood Drive will be closed between E. Frontage Road and Whitehall Road; the left lane of U.S. 27 North will be closed from the Olgiati Bridge to the Dayton Blvd. exit ramp; and the left lane of U.S. 27 South will be closed from Signal Mtn. Rd. Blvd to the next ramp.  Should inclement weather prevent work from being performed, it will be rescheduled to take place at the earliest possible time.  During nighttime work, at least one lane will remain open in each direction.  THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is December 2014. 

Shallowford Road widening project from Gunbarrel Road to Jenkins Road, including grading drainage, and paving: Work continues on this project.  Traffic has been switched to the temporary paving on the SB side of the project and the contractor is working on road and drainage on the NB side of the project.  This work will be performed during the day on weekdays only.  Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is September 2013. 



Local Trainer Wins National Mustang Competition

Cavin Graham, a local horse trainer from Rocky Face, won the Mustang Magic 2018 Competition Saturday night in Ft. Worth, Texas.   This was an invitation only event that was part of the annual Ft. Worth Stock Show.  Competitors participated in four events over the week to make the top ten.  This is Mr. Graham’s first win.   (click for more)
