Whitfield County Educators Receive International Award

Educators from Whitfield County Schools accepted a Project SEARCH Employment Outcome Award at the annual international convention in Cincinnati, Ohio. For the second year running, the local Project SEARCH program, a partnership between Whitfield County Schools, Dalton Public Schools, Vocational Rehabilitation, CrossPlains Community Partner, and Hamilton Medical Center, earned an Employment Outcome Award.

 

School system faculty work with Hamilton Medical Center and other employers to employee people with disabilities. Special Education Coordinator Kathy Reed thanked all of her colleagues who have helped students in the program achieve such phenomenal success.

"We are so proud to receive this award and I thank all of you for your part in the journey!" she said.


Lee Catches World Youth Fly Fishing Champion To Lead New Team

Lee University signed Mason Sims, the 2015 world champion U.S. Youth Fly Fishing Team member and silver medalist, on Thursday to Lee’s recently established fly fishing team.  The university created their fly fishing program in spring 2014 in conjunction with the International Federation of Fly Fishers. Lee University announced the 2016 Rymer Scholarship winners. Dewayne Ray Burns Wanted After Firing Shots At Fort Oglethorpe Police Officers

Dewayne Ray Burns is wanted after police in North Georgia were led on a chase, and he fired shots at officers. Burns fired shots in their direction late Thursday night. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department are investigating the incident. Five names were selected  Friday  by a citizens advisory committee to send to the Cleveland City Council for consideration as the next Cleveland city manager. The five are Angie Carrier, Joe Fivas, Mark Reeter, Seth Sumner and Julie Underwood.
