Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County:

I-24 and I-75 resurfacing project:  I-24 resurfacing from west of Spring Creek Rd. (MM 185) to I-75 (MM 185.7); I-75 resurfacing from the Georgia State Line (MM 0.00) to south of Chickamauga Creek (MM 1.91):  Work on this project is complete pending addressing of punchlist items.  Any work requiring lane closures is limited to Sunday through Thursday nights between 9 p.m.-6 a.m.  THP will assist with traffic control.  

U.S. 41 (SR-8, Ringgold Rd.) grading, drainage and paving at the intersection of I 75 South off-ramp (LM 1.07) at Exit 1:  Work on this project has begun.  The contractor will be working on Exit 1 on I-75 South at East Ridge performing temporary lane shifts and lane reduction operations during this report period.  Work will take place between the hours of 7 a.m.-6 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays.  Unless a major backup occurs, traffic on I-75 should not be affected.  In the future this job could require a temporary lane/shoulder closure on I-75 South.  THP and flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is September.  

U.S. 27 (SR-29) reconstruction project from Manufacturers Road (Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River) to U.S. 127 (SR-8, Signal Mountain Boulevard):  Weather permitting, the contractor will have lane closures throughout the project area on weeknights from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. to perform road work.  During this report period, the contractor will also be working on retaining walls and bridges throughout the project area.  During nighttime work, at least one lane will remain open in each direction.  THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is December 2014.  

Shallowford Road widening project from Gunbarrel Road to Jenkins Road, including grading drainage, and paving:  Work continues on this project.  Traffic has been switched to the temporary paving on the SB side of the project and the contractor is working on road and drainage on the NB side of the project.  This work will be performed during the day on weekdays only.  Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is September.  


Commons To The Hill Completes 166-Mile Trek

The Commons to The Hill completed its eight-day, 166-mile trek Wednesday afternoon at Tennessee's Capitol.  A walk that stepped off in Collegedale concluded on the western steps of the Volunteer State’s Capitol after eight days, 166 miles and lots of work. Bradley County Republican Party Hosts Candidate Forum Thursday

Customer At East Ridge Gas Station Shoots And Kills Robber; He Had Been Trying To Take Female Clerk With Him

East Ridge Police said a customer at an East Ridge gas station early Thursday morning shot a robber, who was then found by police lying outside the station and was arrested.  The robber has died.  His name is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin. Bridge Repair Over 12th Street To Cause Temporary Lane Closure On US 27

While investigating a pothole in the bridge on U.S. 27 North over 12 th Street in the construction zone, crews discovered a potential weak spot in the bridge deck that could over time result in more damage to the bridge deck.  For the safety of the traveling public, the outside lane in this area was closed until the contractor made necessary repairs, TDOT officials said.  ... A Disturbing Trend At Exit 11 - And Response (4)
