Martha Jean Hill Haynes, 87, of Chattanooga, died on Monday, July 29, 2013 in a local health care facility.  

She was the daughter of the late Eugene Walter Hill and Aliene Gattis Hill.  Martha Jean was a 1943 graduate of Girls Preparatory School and a 1947 graduate of the University of Chattanooga, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi.  She was certified in Library Science from Middle Tennessee State University, being first in her graduating class.  Martha Jean was the school librarian at Rossville Junior High for 17 years and at Rosssville High School for three years. 

She was past-president of several organizations, including The In-As-Much Mission Board, St. Gerard Home and School Association, the Walker-Catoosa-Dade Medical Auxillary and Crestwood Garden Club.  Martha Jean was a volunteer for the Hospitality Cart at Tri-County Hospital and served as director in Walker County for the 1970 Census program. 

Martha Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Emil Haynes and a sister, Barbara Hill Brown.

Survivors include her sons, Jerome P. Sims, Jr. , Dr. Stephen D. (Betsy) Sims of Chattanooga and David W. (Karen) Sims of Atlanta; daughter, Carolyn Sims; stepdaughter, Diane Whittaker of Chattanooga; sister, Joan Hill (George) Hanks of Signal Mountain; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, at St. Martin of Tours Episcopal Church, 7547 East Brainerd Road, with Reverend Jim Wallace officiating.  Interment will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South with Martha Jean's sons and grandsons serving as pallbearers. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Avalon Hospice, the Alzheimer's Association or to St. Martin of Tours Episcopal Church.

Bobby Moore, Jr. of Rossville died on Thursday, April 10, 2014. Zachary Bryant Was 6-Year-Old Killed Monday At Chattanooga Valley Elementary
