Elbert Morris Howard 85, of Homosassa, Florida, died on Saturday, July 6, 2013 in a Lawrenceville, Georgia hospice facility.
Elbert was a graduate of Chattanooga Central High School, University of Chattanooga, and was director of the Nuclear Regulatory Agency. He served his country with service in the U.S. Army from 1946 until 1974 retiring with the rank of major.
Elbert and his wife, Barbara were married in and were members of Northside Presbyterian Church.
Elbert was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Howard.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Barbara Young Howard; son, Richard (Janice) Howard, of Lilburn, GA.; daughter, Melinda Howard Bell of Wichita, KS; sister, Pat Ellis Dixon of LasVegas, NV; grandchildren, Christi Howard Duffey, of Hoschton, GA; Stephanie Bell Nash and Robert Bell, of Wichita, KS; great-grandchildren, April and Andrew Duffey, Kataunna, Isabella, Ryun Nash; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 9:30-11 a.m. at the funeral home.
