A Collegedale home was damaged by fire started by a lightning strike Sunday night.
At 9:15 p.m. the Tri-Community Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire at 8004 Ashview Circle in Collegedale due to a lightning strike. The home owner initially reported smoke coming out the air registers. She called back and reported black smoke out the registers and fire visible in the attic.
Quint 1 arrived first and reported smoke in the house and found fire in the attic. The fire was contained within about 10 minutes. The damage was about $20,000.
Four pumpers and one ladder responded with over 30 firefighters. There were no injuries.
Due to a response 10 minutes earlier to a large apartment complex that had been struck by lightning, mutual aid was requested from the Catoosa County Fire Department and the Highway 58 Fire Department. The mutual aid companies stood by in TCFD stations for any additional calls.
