A home in Lookout Valley was damaged Monday night after a lightning strike started a fire.
Chattanooga firefighters were dispatched to 3340 Lookout Lake Road on a reported house fire. Lt. Joe Butler with Quint 3 said the initial calls to dispatch indicated that there might be two house fires in the same area, but as four fire companies responded from different directions, they were able to confirm that all of the 911 calls were for the same house, at 3380 Elder Mountain Road.
Captain Butler said heavy smoke and flames were coming from the second story of the house. The firefighters made a quick interior attack and were able to get the fire under control fairly quickly, saving most of the house and its contents.
The family of four, including two young children, made it safely out of the house. The homeowner told firefighters that they heard and felt lightning strike their home, shortly before their smoke alarms alerted them that their house was on fire.
