WNA Chattanooga (FKA American Plastics) has announced plans to expand its Chattanooga operations through an investment of $21.7 million which will allow the company to create 53 new jobs over the next three years.
According to Greg Dempsey, vice president of Operations for the company, Chattanooga is one of several WNA locations competing for the expansion. "We've gotten tremendous support from Hamilton County, the City of Chattanooga, the Chattanooga Chamber, and the State of Tennessee," Mr. Dempsey said. "This community does an outstanding job of partnering with companies to create jobs."
The first phase of the expansion will be the addition of a $6 million production line which is scheduled for installation later this year. In addition to adding manufacturing capacity in Chattanooga, the project will also bring the warehousing and distribution operations for delivering the product to market in the Eastern half of the United States.
"The WNA expansion project is another example of Hamilton County's focus on supporting existing industries as they create new, family-wage jobs," said County Mayor Jim Coppinger. "We are particularly happy to partner with WNA which is among the industry leaders in plastic food service products."
“WNA’s decision to expand their operations in Chattanooga will not only create jobs in our community, it helps illustrate our city’s position as a major player in the manufacturing industry,” said City Mayor Andy Berke.
"This project is a great example of how WNA and other existing industries are building on Chattanooga's strengths as a manufacturing center, a distribution hub, and excellent environment for launching innovative products and services," said Charles Wood, vice president of economic development for the Chattanooga Chamber. "WNA has been a long-standing employer in our community. We're glad to have the opportunity to support them in growing today while also positioning them for future growth in Chattanooga."
WNA currently manufactures thermo-molded plastic cups, plates, and bowls for the food service industry in two manufacturing facilities in Chattanooga. The company also leases other properties in the area for warehousing raw materials and finished products.
