It’s a “Blue Football Thursday” as the host Cleveland Blue Raiders and the McCallie Blue Tornado face each other tonight at 7:30 p.m. for the first time since 1996.
In tonight's only area football game, host Cleveland (5-5) and McCallie (5-6) look to improve on 2012.
The Blue Raiders have an explosive aerial attack on offense led by a pair of seniors in quarterback Austin Herink and receiver/running back D.
J. Jones. Senior defensive ends are Kimsey Bell and Robert McMahan
McCallie’s option offense is led by sophomore quarterback Lavaughn Craig with running backs Alex Trotter and Paul Silverblatt, fullback Andrew Busby and receiver Spencer Morgan.
Busby also leads the defense from his linebacker spot, while the secondary of Miles Patton, J.J. Lewis and C.J. Fritz will attempt to slow down the Cleveland passing game.
Key Question: Can McCallie run its option offense effectively enough to eat up the clock and score on long, time-consuming drives ? … can Cleveland counter with a quick strike offense led by Jones and Herink? Which defense will step up and make the big plays??
Cleveland is known for producing good quarterbacks such as All-American Chad Voytik (now at U of Pittsburgh) and All-American Quincy Prigmore (U. of Tennessee)
