Waleska, GA- The Dalton State Lady Roadrunners volleyball team fell to 0-2 in their inaugural season, losing to the Reinhardt University Lady Eagles three games to none (20-25; 18-25 and 18-25.)
While the Lady Roadrunners are still in search of their first win, they are gaining valuable experience on the road.
The match with the Eagles was competitive throughout. In similar fashion with their match with Southern Wesleyan, Dalton State showed flashes of excellent play, but the team was unable to put together sustained runs and had too many unforced errors.
“I do not want to take anything away from Reinhardt because they certainly played well and beat us 3-0, but tonight we were not at our best,” said coach Bruna Langner.
“We started strong but seemed to fall apart as the match progressed and that was certainly different from our first match where I felt like we got better as time went on. I can live with physical errors, but I did not think we were sharp mentally or played well as a unit. I take full responsibility for that and will make sure that is a one-time occurrence.”
For the Lady Roadrunners, Alyne Bianchi (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) had five kills and Anna Dykes (Ringgold) added four. The Lady Eagles of the Appalachian Athletic Conference move to 1-0 on the young season.
Next up for the Lady Roadrunners is a closed scrimmage versus Lee University followed by road contests at The University of The Cumberlands on Saturday. They will battle Berea College at 2 p.m. and the host University of the Cumberlands at 4 p.m. The Lady Roadrunners debut in Dalton on Sept. 19 at Dalton High School while renovations on Bandy Gym are being completed.
