Plans Underway To Convert Church Off Main Street For Offices, Live-Work Units

Plans are underway to convert a former church off Main Street for use as offices and live-work units.

Towson and Dede Ensberg are seeking rezoning at 501 E. 16th St. at the former New Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.

The request comes before the Planning Commission next Monday at 1 p.m. at the County Courthouse.

The two-story facility includes 4,500 square feet.

The plan is to use the top floor for apartments and the lower floor for offices.

The Regional Planning Agency staff is recommending approval of the rezoning.


Apartments Planned At McCallie Avenue, Central Avenue

A developer is planning apartments at the northwest corner of McCallie Avenue and Central Avenue. Skip Pond said he wants to construct two 2-story apartment buildings with a total of 8 to 10 apartment units. The proposed residential density is approximately 24-30 dwelling units per acre. Magistrate Sharetta Smith told police that a former boyfriend had sent her a threatening text message with a sexual picture from the time they were dating attached.
