County Commission Approves Health Clinic For County Workers; Longshore Says Joining With City Was Never Considered

Wednesday, August 07, 2013

The County Commission voted Wednesday to set up a health clinic for county employees and their families at the McDaniel Building on N. Highland Park Avenue.

Leslie Longshore, human resources director, said joining in the city's program was never considered.

She told Commission members that the city and county have two entirely separate plans.

Ms. Longshore said, "We have different goals, different administration and different demographics. We are looking for a different model for our onsite clinic."

Commissioner Tim Boyd said he was questioned by some constituents on why the county could not join with the city, which recently opened a new clinic on 11th Street.

Galen Medical Group will be operating the county clinic at a cost of $550,882.

There is already a county pharmacy at the site.
