Community Concert With Over 100 Singers Scheduled For Aug. 18

"The Joy of Music," a free community concert with over 100 singers from local churches and community  choirs, will be presented Sunday, Aug. 18, at 3 p.m. at First-Centenary United Methodist Church, 419 McCallie Ave.  

The program will include sacred songs, spirituals, light classical and popular selections. The concert is the climax to a two-day choral festival directed by Dr. Michael Kemp, nationally-recognized choral director, arranger and composer.

Sunday Is 125th Anniversary Of St. Elmo Presbyterian Church

Rev. Tim Tinsley of First Presbyterian Church on McCallie Ave. will be the guest preacher.  "First Presbyterian gave the seed money to start construction 127 years ago," church officials said. One person has died in a wreck Sunday at Soddy Daisy in which four other people were injured. The wreck happened at 12:35 p.m. when a vehicle traveling north struck another vehicle that was pulling onto the highway. A small red truck was badly damaged in the crash.
