Tennessee State University Offers Diabetes Academies

Tennessee State University (TSU) and the University of Tennessee (UT) Extension offer programs in health education and wellness.  Diabetes Academies will be held at the UT & TSU Extension Office, 6183 Adamson Circle, 37416 on Thursday, Aug. 15, from 12-2 p.m.  This is a program for people with diabetes, prediabetes, or those at-risk of diabetes. Tonya Swoape, Certified Diabetes Educator, will be the guest presenter for this very informative session.

The program is no cost to participants but spaces are limited.

Heart Health Lecture Offered Jan. 25 At Nutrition World

A free lecture titled, "Everything You Need to Know about Heart Health" will be offered at 6 p.m. on  Jan. 25, at  Nutrition World,  6201 Lee Highway. There are 17 risk factors for heart disease. Walker Charged With Sunday Night Murder Of Girlfriend In LaFayette

A 29-year-old Walker County man has been charged with murdering his girlfriend, also 29. Sheriff Steve Wilson said David Ryan Walker was charged in the slaying of Candace Ann Hankins. He said she was killed inside a house on Wheeler Road in LaFayette and her body was found in woods behind the house. The sheriff said Walker called relatives to express remorse about the killing. ... Man With Gun Runs From Police At Hamilton Place Mall; Pushes Shoppers Out Of The Way

A man who was found to be armed with a handgun was chased by police early Saturday afternoon. He pushed shoppers out of the way during the pursuit, which included racing down an escalator.   Erwin J.
