Cleveland Funeral Home Director Jimmy Rush Dies At 74

Jimmy L. “Jim” Rush, 74, of Cleveland, founder of Jim Rush Funeral Homes, died Monday in a Sevierville, Tn.,  hospital. 

He was the son of the late J.L. “Shorty” and Nellie Ritchey Rush. He started in the funeral business at the age of 14, working at Daniels Funeral Home at Rome, Ga., alongside his father. 

After moving to Cleveland, he served as the head of detectives of the Bradley County Sheriff’s Department. 

In 1973, he was named manager of Buckner Funeral Home. In 1977, he purchased the funeral home and changed the name to Buckner-Rush Funeral Homes. In 2003, he brought his son, J. Greg Rush and his son-in-law, Darrin Douglas, in as partners. They changed the name to Jim Rush Funeral Homes.
