The first 1 Mile Walk or 5K Fun Run for Sickle Cell will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Booker T. Washington State Park. Registration begins at 8 a.m. The event is sponsored by the Chattanooga Scenic City Sickle Cell Corporation members and Board of Directors, National Coalition of One Hundred Black Women – Chattanooga Chapter, and Esince Management Services, LLC.
September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month. There is a population of sickle cell clients in the Chattanooga community who are underserved, particularly those who have recently transitioned from pediatric to adulthood, officials said. The Chattanooga Scenic City Sickle Cell Corporation aims to brand the education and awareness of sickle cell disease. The goal of the walk is to raise funds that will help the organization carry out its programs.
