EPB Warns About Telephone Scammers Targeting Customers

Thursday, September 12, 2013

The EPB issued a statement about a telephone scam that is targeting customers:

"EPB wants to ensure all of our customers’ accounts and personal information remain safe as a widespread scam reaches Chattanooga.

"Several business customers tell us they have gotten calls from people claiming to be with EPB and that immediate payment must be made to prevent their power from being disconnected. The imposter instructs the customer to purchase a MoneyPak (reloadable debit card) at Wal Mart, Walgreens, CVS or Rite Aid, and then call back with the account number from the card.

"This is a scam. EPB never calls customers asking for payments to be made with pre-paid debit cards.

"Similar incidents have also been reported in Knoxville, Nashville and in Alabama."

The Better Business Bureau has issued an alert, which can be viewed at http://www.bbb.org/blog/2013/04/hang-up-on-new-utility-bill-phone-scam/

"Please help us alert the community about this scam, and ask people to call us to report any incidents like this at 423 648-1372."

Silence Ain’t Golden Anymore

There are times – moments – in life that you never forget. That night in 1972, sleeping over at my buddy Bart’s house, was one of them. We had been to a middle school concert and his big brother was in the band (very cool stuff for a 14-year-old!) and as we lay on the floor in our sleeping bags in Bart’s room he said he wanted to play a record that his brother listened to. And, ... (click for more)
