The executive director of the Chattanooga Theatre Center said the facility, which is in its 90th season, could close due to fiscal issues.
George Quick said, "Arts and Cultural organizations are in crisis. With the announcement of the closing of Atlanta's Theatre Under the Stars and the almost certain demise of the New York City Opera, I'm compelled to tell you that if we cannot raise at least $90,000 in donations this fall, (and more after that) your Chattanooga Theatre Centre could very well be facing the same difficult decisions.
"In this 90th Season, your Chattanooga Theatre Centre is facing more financial stress than ever before. In order to bring you the shows that celebrate our past, present and future, we need more than subscription and single ticket sales (which make up only 42% of our annual income - good by industry standards, but we still need more). You see, funding from the Tennessee Arts Commission has decreased by 25% since 2008; and, funding from ArtsBuild (formerly Allied Arts) has decreased by 47% during that same time period! It's more and more difficult to garner corporate and foundation support and so we rely on you and your friends to support this beloved Chattanooga cultural institution.
"In order to face these cuts and continue to provide our valuable programs for young people and adults, we must have your financial support.
"A contribution of $90 or more (in honor of our 90th Anniversary) will get you a Parking Pass good in our parking lot next to Coolidge Park from now through August of 2014.
"Any size contribution will help."
